Robin

Robin Witt is a theatre director  known for her work on new plays from the UK and Ireland as well as for the resurrection of  lost and forgotten plays from the inter-war years. She has helmed many US premieres of contemporary British plays—introducing many UK playwrights to American audiences. Venues she has worked with include Steppenwolf Theatre, Goodman, Writers Theatre, Northlight, Edinburgh Festival, Everyman Theatre (Baltimore), and Lookingglass Theatre. Her work has been featured and reviewed both nationally and internationally in various print and online media such as the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Time Out Chicago, The Week, Chicago Sun-Times, and British Theatre Guide. She is the recipient of multiple Jeff Awards for her work in Chicago where she is a member of both Steep Theatre and Griffin Theatre Company. Her essay,  “Interview theatre and the Dream Act: Activism through raising community voices” can be found in DREAM Act Activists & Teacher Allies: Are You Listening? Teachers College Press.

 

Robin, who is deaf (she reads lips and wears hearing aids), is a Professor of Directing at UNC Charlotte. She holds a BFA in Acting from New York University Tisch School of the Arts and a MFA in Directing from Northwestern University. Robin is the daughter of the late actor Howard Witt.
